Social Studies
We are spending a second week on our topic, Our Land and Resources and Community Resources. Our quiz will be on Friday, October 5th. We will be studying about our US Geography as we discuss regions, landforms, and our country’s renewable and nonrenewable resources. Your child will want to review their daily DOSS sheet daily to be prepared for the quiz on October 5th.
Math
This week we will finish our addition and subtraction unit titled Collections and Travel Stories. The lessons will focus on the following concepts:
1. Reasoning about how increasing or decreasing the numbers in a subtraction problem affects the difference
2. Finding the difference (using a number line) between 2 and 3-digit numbers, including 100
3. Using multiples of 10 or 100 as landmarks to solve subtraction problems using a number line
We will have our end of unit assessment on Friday. To prepare for this assessment students should review all of unit 3 in their Math Investigations workbook.
Science
We are working to answer the essential question "How can we overcome the force of gravity?" The students will know that gravity is a force that pulls objects toward each other and can be overcome. Gravity pulls objects down toward the center of the Earth. The more mass an object has, the more difficult it is to overcome gravity. Also, pushes and pulls that work against gravity can overcome the force.
