Social Studies
The students have a quiz on Friday, November 2nd. We will be studying about early explorers including Christopher Columbus, Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo, and Samuel de Champlain. We will answer the question, Why did Spain and France send explorers to North America?
Math
This week we will continue our Equal Groups unit where the students will be introduced to the concept of division. Please continue to practice skip counting with your child to gain fluency.
The lessons will focus on the following:
1. Understanding divisions as the splitting of a quantity into equal groups.
2. Using the inverse relationship between multiplication and division to solve story problems.
For example 7 x __ = 21 can also be written as 21 ÷ 7 = __
We will have a quiz on Wednesday. To prepare for this quiz, students should continue to practice skip counting by 4, 6,7,8,9, and 12. Additionally, review page 31 in the math folder “Combinations I know” and “Combinations I’m working On.”
Science
The students are working to answer the essential question, How can we observe and describe matter? The students will use their senses (except taste!) to compare materials and objects according to properties such as size, shape, color, texture and hardness. We will also read Jelly Bean Scientist and after reading, the students will play Guess My Jelly Bean. Ask your child to describe the game to you. Be sure to review the Science Journal nightly to help reinforce class work and check out our classroom blog.
Guess My Jelly Bean sounds like a FUN game! Can I play?
