Social Studies
Our lesson focuses on money, bartering, and making a budget. Our quiz will be on Friday, February 15th. Please help your child be successful by studying their blue DOSS sheet nightly.
Math
In class, your child will be figuring out ways to combine fractions to make a whole, such as ¼ + ¼ + ½ = 1. You can build on this while cooking. If a recipe calls for a ½ cup, pretend that the ½ measuring cup is missing or broken. Ask if there are other ways to measure that amount. For example, =
We will have a quiz on Friday. To prepare for this quiz students should review pages 18-27 in their Math Investigations Unit.
Science
We are reaching the end of our Energy Unit. The students should be able to identify some basic forms of energy such as light, heat, sound, electrical, and mechanical. They should recognize that energy has the ability to cause motion or create change. The students should be able to demonstrate that light travels in a straight line until it strikes an object or travels from one medium to another and that light can be reflected, refracted, and absorbed. Please study the student the workbook (Chapter 4) and Science journals to prepare for the end of unit energy assessment, which will be on Thursday, February 7th.
