Social Studies
Our lesson focuses on how citizens improve communities by working for the common good. We will discuss the rights & responsibilities of United States citizens. For the quiz on Friday, January 11th, students should review their blue DOSS sheet.
Math
We continue our Stories, Tables, and Graphs unit. We are learning about situations that involve change and ways to mathematically describe and represent this change. Tables & graphs are used to represent how one quantity changes in relation to another quantity. We focus on the following:
1. Describe the overall shape of a ling graph – increasing, decreasing, or staying the same.
2. Associate a story with its corresponding graph.
3. Creating a representation for a situation with a constant rate of change. For example, if you start with 10 marbles in a jar and add 6 marbles each day, how many marbles will you have after 5 days? 10+6+6+6+6+6= 40 marbles OR 10 + (5x6) = 40
We will have a quiz on Wednesday. To prepare students should review the line graphs on pages 1 and 7 in their Math Investigations Unit. Students should be able to find the difference between two points on the line graph by subtracting using a number line.
Science
We have begun studying energy. We will learn that energy can cause motion or create change, as well as some ways that energy can change form.
