The Kitchen Sink: Week of September 10th - 14th

Social Studies
Kinds of communities will be our focus this week as we discuss urban, suburban, and rural areas, and discuss population.  To read the content, you can visit our blog and follow the Social Studied textbook link.  Please help your child review their blue DOSS sheet to ensure their success. on the quiz on Friday, September 14th.   


Math
This week we will continue our addition and subtraction unit titled Collections and Travel Stories.  The lessons will focus on the following concepts:

1. Developing strategies for solving addition problems by focusing on how each strategy starts
2. Estimating the sum of 2 and 3-digit numbers using knowledge of place value and known combinations of landmark numbers (multiples of 10 and 100)
3. Solving addition problems with 2 and 3-digit numbers by breaking the numbers apart (decomposing) and recombining them

There will be no quiz this week. 

Science
We have begun studying our universe.  “What can we learn by studying stars?” is the essential question that will guide our learning journey.  This week we will focus on the characteristics of a star, types of stars, and patterns in our stars.  There will be a Science quiz on Thursday, September 13th.  Please help your child review their Science Journal, workbook pages 52-57, 58-61, and 67-69, and check out our class blog for great studying resources.
